On editing and passion

Last week I wrote about sorting my writing projects. This week is all about editing.

I am currently editing a non-fiction book. During NaNoWriMo I will edit a science fiction book, hopefully bringing it to second draft before the month is over.

Editing is hard! It is easy to lose your passion for a project during the editing process. Very easy. What helps for me is keeping focus on why I want to write this book, the passion for my story or idea.

This passion keeps the editing going.

I usually know this passion for the story before I even start to write. The book leaps out and says, "This is what I am, this is what I want to be, let's make me perfect!"

And even through the edits for the hardest chapters, this thought helps me finish them.
